In a diplomatic move towards the cause of Middle East peace, Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, convened with his Palestinian counterpart, Mahmoud Abbas, during the latter’s official visit to Egypt on July 31st, 2023. Cairo bore witness to this crucial political engagement that aimed to navigate and coordinate their positions on issues central to the Palestinian cause.
The leaders’ deliberations were primarily focused on rejuvenating the peace process, a mission that has always proven to be a challenging task. In the face of numerous concerns tied to the Palestinian issue, the two heads of state deliberated on ways to harmonize their perspectives and strategize for the road ahead.
According to the Presidential Spokesman, Counsellor Ahmed Fahmy, both leaders accentuated the critical need to safeguard the rightful Palestinian entitlements. They jointly underscored the pursuit of a comprehensive, just, and enduring peace premised on the two-state solution, further advocating for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
